Many people wonder; is breakfast really important meal of the day? The consensus is yes, it is important and what you choose for breakfast is even more important. It’s also important to note that breakfast high in refined sugars and carbohydrates can do more damage than good. Eating breakfast regularly has been shown to help reduce risk of developing diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity. What you eat for your morning meal is important. Sugary cereals, pastries, along with high fat, processed meat tend to be popular breakfast food items. Avoid these in the morning. They could cause a rapid blood sugar spike, leading to mid morning hunger. Having a high fibre breakfast along with a good amount of protein and some heart -healthy fats leads to a better health. Eggs, Yogurt, Legumes and nuts are some of the breakfast foods high in protein. As should be the case when you begin any new habit, start slow and steady. Look at your current breakfast choices to see if there’s anything you can substitute for something higher in fibre and protein and lower in sugar. Keep your breakfast simple
