Residents of Ikinu, Githunguri, and Kiambu County were stunned on Sunday by a rare wedding ceremony in which a Catholic priest exchanged marriage vows with his lover.
Reverend Father Edwin Gathang’i Waiguru married Margaret Wanjira Githui after defecting to the Catholic Charismatic church, a Roman Catholic splinter group.
He was also ordained as a Roman Catholic priest on the same day.
Waiguru told journalists that his decision to marry was a call from God, a dream he has been harbouring for years.
“I thank my wife for accepting to come and be also used by God so that we can show the world that it’s possible for somebody to serve God and have a family because God did not make a mistake when he created a man and a woman and he said it is not good for a man to be alone,” he said.
