Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a stern warning that he plans to dismiss approximately 100 chiefs nationwide before Christmas due to their lackluster performance in the battle against illegal alcohol consumption. During a Sunday church service in Nandi County, he emphasized his commitment to maintaining the pressure on eradicating illicit brews, as the crackdown is showing positive results.Gachagua expressed his reluctance to terminate chiefs but stated that if the issue of illicit alcohol persists by Christmas, he might have to remove 10 to 15 chiefs from Nandi County as a painful measure. His aim is to make an example of these chiefs as a deterrent for others across the country who have neglected their duties. He urged the Nandi County Commissioner and officials across the nation to involve community elders and church leaders in the efforts to eliminate this problem, which he believes has greatly impacted Kenyan youth. In conclusion, Gachagua emphasized that a choice must be made between the chiefs and the issue of alcohol, as alcohol itself lacks decision-making capabilities. He highlighted that significant progress has already been made, with thousands of liquor establishments closed and numerous arrests made, alongside the confiscation of millions of liters of illicit alcohol since the crackdown began in January.
