Azimio la Umoja coalition deputy presidential candidate Martha Karua has stepped up to defend herself from what his counterpart Rigathi Gachagua opted to use against her in yesterday’s deputy presidential debate and that what turned out against Karua’s resignation from former president the late Mwai Kibaki’s government where she worked as the Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister before her resignation in 2009.

Marhira MP Rigathi Gachagua used this against Karua terming her as one who cannot work under pressure if he could resign from the government of  ‘the gentleman of Kenyan politics and an amiable old, good and respectable man like Kibaki at a time when Kibaki needed him the most due to Raila’s pressure. Gachagua added that if it was the case then, he believes such a leader is a serious doubt to work under anybody else.

Karua in her defence, however, sought to clarify that resigning from a government you no longer have trust in is the only honorable thing to do saying that was her only option. Karua added that despite the fact that she resigned, they still were in good terms with the late Mwai Kibaki and they could still meet and have discussions in a respectful way.
