A human rights activist who blew the whistle over hospitals involved in swindling elderly patients through the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) is fearing for his life after receiving death threats. The media carried a story in which some unscrupulous medical institutions went to a rural village in Meru County, targeted elderly with NHIF cards, drove some to hospitals in Kiambu and Nairobi, and slapped them with exorbitant medical bills ranging above Sh300k.Some died in the ordeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
