The case of Brian Mwenda, the individual accused of practicing law without the required qualifications, remains a topic of contention among Kenyans.Some Kenyans, including prominent figures, have expressed support for Mwenda, while another group, primarily led by legal authorities, condemns him and calls for his arrest.However, one person firmly standing by Mwenda is Francis Atwoli, the Secretary General of the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU).On Sunday, October 15, Atwoli had a confrontation with Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi, who criticized Atwoli and Nairobi politician Mike Sonko for backing what he called a “fraud.”Ahmednasir posed the question of whether it was a mere coincidence that the most vocal supporters of Brian Mwenda were Mike Sonko and Dr. Francis Atwoli, both of whom left school at class 7.In response, Atwoli expressed concerns about lawyers who, in his view, have turned into “swindlers” rather than advocates.The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) demanded that Atwoli withdraw his support for Mwenda and issue an apology. However, the outspoken union leader has refused to do so, maintaining his support for Mwenda and advocating for Recognition of Prior Learning in the field of Law.Instead, Atwoli has called for an emergency meeting convened by LSK President Eric Theuri to address the issue of “rogue lawyers” who continue to defraud Kenyans of millions.Atwoli humorously suggested that if LSK were to gather Kenyans who have been swindled by lawyers in stadiums across the country, even those under construction for AFCON would be full to capacity.Send a message<\/p>\n\n\n\n
