Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki, alongside representatives from the French Development Agency (AFD), who are the project donors under the European Union, oversaw the event. In this meeting, residents consented to allocate 27 acres for relocating the road away from the Itugururu airstrip. This decision paves the way for the project to commence. Governor Njuki mentioned that the initiative, which began in 2017 across six asal counties, including Tharaka Nithi, seeks to connect the county headquarters with its productive areas. The project faced delays due to a lack of political support from the previous regime. Additionally, Governor Njuki highlighted that the Kibugua-Itugururu Mau Mau road will connect the Itugururu airstrip with the County industrial park at Kairini, creating a significant economic impact.
