The strike was initiated following the MoH’s failure to address critical concerns, including the posting of medical interns and the non-adherence to the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), among other issues.

Despite a court order issued last week by Employment and Labour Relations Court Judge Byram Ongaya, suspending the doctors’ strike to facilitate negotiations, doctors have maintained their stance. The strike, which commenced on Thursday, March 14, 2024, continues as the dialogue between the MoH and KMPDU unfolds.

The outcome of Monday’s meeting holds significant implications for the healthcare sector and the well-being of the public. Both parties are urged to approach the dialogue with sincerity and a commitment to finding mutually acceptable solutions, ultimately ensuring the resumption of essential medical services across the country.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists’ Union (KMPDU) are set to engage in a crucial dialogue on Monday aimed at resolving the ongoing nationwide doctors’ strike.
