Nonetheless, Chirchir underscored that the issuance of the license represented a reciprocal opportunity rather than a concession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;This presents a significant opportunity for Kenya without incurring any losses. We are engaged in discussions with Uganda to ensure a favorable outcome,&#8221; he remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2023, Uganda expressed dissatisfaction with Kenya&#8217;s hindrances in the importation of the vital commodity. Amid the escalating deadlock, Uganda sought alternatives in Tanzania for its imports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) had declined to grant UNOC a business certificate, impeding Uganda&#8217;s efforts to import independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In December of the previous year, Ugandan Energy Minister Rutth Nankwabirwa disclosed that despite the higher costs associated with the Tanzania route, it was deemed preferable as it averted a crisis of shortages.
