Wakhumile emphasized that the suspect must not leave the country without prior consent from the court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The travel ban was enacted after Ira\u2019s wife appeared before the anti-corruption court regarding her suspected connection to the misappropriation of Ksh351 million in county funds. During the court proceedings, she pleaded not guilty to the charges, prompting the judge to offer bail or bond options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Senior Principal Prosecution Counsel Susan Keli did not oppose the bail or bond application but appealed to the judge. Keli urged the court to set a bond or bail amount that reflects the severity of the crimes the ex-governor&#8217;s wife is accused of committing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/www.getufm.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/images-2-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.getufm.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/images-2-3.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.getufm.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/images-2-3-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Considering the gravity of the charges and the significant amounts involved in the corruption allegations, Keli requested the court to impose a bond or bail commensurate with the alleged offenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the prosecution&#8217;s arguments, Iria&#8217;s wife was granted release on a Ksh5 million bond, with a surety of a similar amount, or an alternative cash bail of Ksh1 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Iria&#8217;s wife was initially apprehended on April 17 by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), along with the governor&#8217;s brother.
