The announcement came during a press briefing on Tuesday morning, following their meeting at State House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finance Committee Chair Kimani Kuria stated that the government had responded to public feedback by reducing proposed taxes. He clarified that the Eco Levy would now only apply to imported finished products, exempting those manufactured within Kenya. Additionally, Kuria noted that domestically produced diapers and sanitary towels would not be subject to this levy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an effort to mitigate the rising cost of living, the committee confirmed the removal of the proposed increase in tax on mobile transactions from the bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group also decided to drop contentious taxes, including a 16 percent VAT increase on bread.
