The protests persist despite President William Ruto’s withdrawal of the contentious bill that initially ignited nationwide outrage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tensions High in Nairobi<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The capital city of Nairobi remains a focal point of unrest as the ‘One Million People March’ is set to converge on State House Nairobi. Organizers have successfully mobilized a diverse coalition of Gen-X, Millennials, Gen-Z, and other citizens through viral online campaigns. As of 1:40 PM, protesters have surrounded patrolling Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers, chanting “Ruto Must Go.” The soldiers have maintained a non-aggressive stance, allowing demonstrators to approach their vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Protests in Kisumu and Mombasa<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Kisumu, demonstrators staged a peaceful sit-down in front of the Kisumu State Lodge while another group confronted a military tanker and police officers. The police have refrained from interfering with the protestors, opting for a peaceful dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, in Mombasa, protests have begun without incident. The coastal city saw largely peaceful demonstrations on Tuesday, with Governor Abdullswamad Sherrif Nassir joining protestors and preventing police from using excessive force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clashes and Tear Gas in Nairobi and Homa Bay<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 1:20 PM, tear gas was deployed at Jamia Mosque in Nairobi, targeting aid workers. Photos show aid workers enveloped in tear gas, raising concerns over police targeting medical personnel and journalists. Additionally, tear gas filled Moi Avenue as protests gained momentum, leading to several arrests and clashes with police near Imenti House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Homa Bay, tensions escalated as police used tear gas to disperse protestors engaged in running battles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KDF Movements and Deployment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A KDF convoy was spotted patrolling Nairobi’s Waiyaki Way and was last seen in Westlands. Earlier, KDF troops were deployed at Nyayo Stadium, a move approved by the National Assembly but challenged in court. The court is expected to rule on the legality of military involvement in the protests later today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Protests Spread to Other Regions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Migori, protestors have engaged in running battles with police since early morning, closing roads and burning tires. The numbers of protestors in Nairobi remain relatively small and largely peaceful, with heavy police presence and drones being used for surveillance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
