Azimio La Umoja has announced plans to take recent killings during the Anti-Finance Bill protests to the International Criminal Court (ICC). The protests, which started peacefully last week, escalated on Tuesday, leading to several deaths and injuries as demonstrators clashed with police over proposed tax hikes aimed at reducing government debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The situation turned violent as protesters stormed the Senate and National Assembly buildings, setting fire to parts of the parliamentary precincts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, speaking on Friday, vowed to hold those responsible for the deaths accountable. “We are going to document every case and perhaps even revisit the International Criminal Court to address the atrocities committed against the Kenyan people,” Musyoka stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Musyoka criticized President William Ruto’s regime, calling it “heartless and inconsiderate” for ignoring the grievances raised by the youth. He praised the youth movement for their efforts to bring about change in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlighting the issue of abductions, Musyoka noted, “Abduction seems to be continuing, with students being abducted, terrorized, and indoctrinated.” He emphasized that these cases would be a key reference when submitting their case to the ICC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Musyoka urged President Ruto to engage with the youth leadership to address their concerns and take significant actions beyond those already documented in international discourse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The protests, which erupted nationwide, exposed the police’s lack of a comprehensive strategy to manage the demonstrations, as evident in the breach of key government infrastructure by the youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
