This notable absence has fueled speculation about the coalition’s future.

The meeting, held on Thursday, included leaders from the Wiper Democratic Movement, Narc Kenya, DAP-K, Jubilee, PNU, and Charity Ngilu’s party. These parties are unified in their opposition to the grand coalition government and emphasized their intent to consult widely before deciding their next move.

A viral photo from the meeting showed key figures, including Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Jeremiah Kioni, Peter Munya, Charity Ngilu, Enock Wambua, and Eugene Wamalwa, engaged in serious discussions to re-strategize amid the coalition’s turmoil. Karua captioned the image: “Definitely not boarding,” hinting at a refusal to cooperate in talks proposed by Raila Odinga and his political adversary, William Ruto.

Kalonzo Musyoka stated, “If you ask my position, I am where the Kenyan people are, I’m where the Gen Zs are. This country has been changed forever.”

The conspicuous absence of ODM at such a pivotal meeting has raised questions about the unity within Azimio. Nyaribari Masaba MP Daniel Manduku revealed that ODM held a separate meeting and resolved to engage with the current government. ODM National Chairman John Mbadi denied any imminent breakup within the opposition coalition but acknowledged significant issues that could lead to drastic measures.

“Azimio is still one, but in the event that these differences, which I see are glaring, become impossible to resolve, then the option would be to dissolve the coalition and maybe have the political parties strategize afresh for 2027. There are outstanding differences. As ODM, we believe in transparency and honesty,” Mbadi stated.

Additionally, the Wiper party has demanded clarification on an incident where their party leader was forced to seek safety after rowdy youth disrupted their address.

The internal strife within the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition escalated as six affiliate parties convened a consultative meeting in Westlands, Nairobi, without the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
