A 28-year-old police officer from Nakuru Central Police Station has been apprehended by his fellow officers while allegedly attempting to sell game trophies in Molo.

The officer, identified as Ben Muiru Mwangi, was arrested alongside Maina Gichura, 32, after being found in possession of ten kilograms of ivory outside a local bank where the illicit transaction was planned.

Molo Sub County Police Commander, Timon Odingo, revealed that authorities had received a tip-off about the officer’s involvement in transporting ivory. Acting on this information, they set up a sting operation.

“The suspects arrived at the location on a motorcycle. When asked to identify themselves, they refused, and one attempted to open one of the loaded bags,” said Odingo.

Police promptly moved in, arresting the duo and confiscating the ivory, along with a firearm found in the bags.
