The Employment and Labour Relations Court on Tuesday issued a temporary order halting the ongoing national teachers’ strike. The ruling came after the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) filed a case seeking to resolve the impasse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The court has scheduled the case for mention on September 5, offering a brief respite to students across the country who were left in limbo as their education hung in the balance. The strike, which has paralyzed learning in schools nationwide, has raised concerns, especially with national examinations approaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the court’s intervention, the nationwide strike led by the Kenya National Union of Post Primary Teachers (KUPPET) continued on Tuesday, further disrupting the academic calendar. However, in a bid to address the situation, the Treasury released Ksh 13.5 billion earmarked for teachers’ salaries, covering the months of July and August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Teachers initiated the strike after the government failed to honor their Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), along with other unresolved issues. This industrial action threatened to significantly impact the education sector, leaving students and parents anxious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos had previously expressed hope that a resolution could be reached through ongoing discussions with key stakeholders.
