Nigeria has obtained its first shipment of the Mpox vaccine, consisting of 10,000 doses, from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). This marks the country’s initial receipt of the vaccine, which comes as Nigeria reports 40 confirmed Mpox cases with no fatalities to date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Muyi Aina, the Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), described the donation as a “critical step” for the country. He emphasized the global scarcity of the vaccine, noting, “We are aware that the vaccine is not exactly in surplus supply. I believe we’re getting 10,000 of the about 200,000 doses that are available globally.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In line with the government’s strategy, USAID announced that the vaccines will be prioritized for distribution in five states: Bayelsa, Edo, Cross-River, and Lagos.
