The police chief claims that the judgment was delivered without considering a crucial application he had previously submitted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his petition to the Appellate Court, Masengeli argued that Justice Lawrence Mugambi handed down the sentence despite his earlier statement clarifying that the individuals in question were not in police custody. He further criticized the judge for issuing the contempt ruling, stating that he had already sent representatives to the court to address the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Masengeli&#8217;s appeal also challenged the court&#8217;s decision to sentence him in absentia, emphasizing that he was not formally notified of the contempt charges. \u201cThe learned Judge erred in law by ruling that the Appellant could not be represented by his authorized agents or legal advocates in explaining the delay in complying with the habeas corpus orders,\u201d reads part of the appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The acting Inspector General hopes the appeal will overturn the sentence handed down by Justice Mugambi, who Masengeli claims overstepped his jurisdiction.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli has filed an appeal at the High Court challenging a recent ruling that sentenced him to six months in prison for contempt of court.
