Two foreign nationals have been fined Ksh30 million or face a one-year jail term after being convicted of drug trafficking by the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Court. The duo, arrested on March 13, 2024, during a sting operation led by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), pleaded guilty to the charges.

The suspects were apprehended in the Nyamakima area by detectives from the Transnational Organized Crimes Unit, with support from the Anti-Narcotics Unit. They later led the officers to their homes in Umoja and Santon, where 39.04 grams of heroin and 25.71 grams of cannabis were discovered.

In addition to the fine and potential jail time, the court ordered that the convicts be deported after serving their sentences. The seized drugs are set to be destroyed as per the court’s directive.

The DCI continues to intensify efforts to combat drug trafficking in the country.
