Dr. Moraa, 27, died by suicide on Sunday night at her residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to police and her family, Dr. Moraa left a suicide note detailing the toxic working conditions and financial hardships she faced, including non-payment for her services. Her struggles with basic needs such as rent, utility bills, and the immense pressure from supervisors and consultants highlight the systemic issues affecting medical interns across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Medical Interns Liaison Committee announced the withdrawal of services to both honor their late colleague and raise awareness about the challenges faced by interns in the healthcare sector. The withdrawal, which began at noon, is expected to last for 36 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Dr. Moraa\u2019s case is a painful reminder of the neglect faced by medical interns in Kenya, many of whom work under grueling conditions with little support,&#8221; read part of a statement from the committee. Interns make up 30% of the healthcare workforce in public facilities but often work long hours without adequate rest or meals, leading to severe mental health consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Moraa\u2019s family revealed that she frequently worked shifts lasting up to 36 hours, further exacerbating her mental and emotional stress.
