Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has reported that 42 Kenyans lost their lives during anti-government protests between June and August, contradicting human rights groups that place the number of deaths at 61. Kindiki stated that the Committee had received detailed reports on 30 protest-related deaths.
