{"id":17446,"date":"2025-03-20T12:52:28","date_gmt":"2025-03-20T12:52:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.getufm.co.ke\/?p=17446"},"modified":"2025-03-20T12:52:32","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T12:52:32","slug":"ex-nyandarua-governor-fined-ksh-1m-over-procurement-irregularities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.getufm.co.ke\/?p=17446","title":{"rendered":"Ex-Nyandarua Governor Fined Ksh.1M Over Procurement Irregularities."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1022\" height=\"630\" src=\"https:\/\/www.getufm.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Nyandarua-og_image.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17447\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.getufm.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Nyandarua-og_image.webp 1022w, https:\/\/www.getufm.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Nyandarua-og_image-980x604.webp 980w, https:\/\/www.getufm.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Nyandarua-og_image-480x296.webp 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1022px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Former <strong>Nyandarua Governor Daniel Waithaka Mwangi<\/strong> and ex-<strong>Water CEC Grace Gitonga<\/strong> have been fined <strong>Ksh.1 million <\/strong> or face <strong>two years in jail<\/strong> after being found guilty of <strong>procurement-related offences<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Delivering the judgment on <strong>Thursday, March 21<\/strong>, <strong>Nyahururu Chief Magistrate Evans Keagwo<\/strong> ruled that the evidence presented in court proved the <strong>loss of public funds<\/strong> due to <strong>irregular procurement procedures<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The case dates back to <strong>2018<\/strong>, when the <strong>Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)<\/strong> charged the duo for <strong>awarding an irregular Ksh.50.5 million tender<\/strong> to an <strong>Israeli firm, M\/s TAHAL Consulting Engineers Ltd<\/strong>, for a <strong>master plan of the Ol-Kalou Water and Sanitation project<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the court found that <strong>no funds were directly lost<\/strong>, the contract was awarded <strong>without prior planning and in violation of procurement laws<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sentencing has been <strong>suspended until Monday, March 24<\/strong>, when the two must <strong>present proof of payment<\/strong> of the fines.
