However, his first request for bail was dismissed, with the court assuring a speedy hearing of the appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a fresh application, Waititu sought to introduce new evidence and additional legal arguments to support his bid for release. The court has now allowed these amendments, effectively giving the former governor a renewed opportunity to argue for bail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Waititu was sentenced to either serve 12 years in prison or pay a fine of Ksh.52.5 million. In addition to the sentencing, he was barred from contesting any political office for the next seven years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His wife, Susan Ndung\u2019u, who was charged alongside him, was handed a one-year jail term or a fine of Ksh.500,000.
