{"id":8844,"date":"2022-08-22T10:13:30","date_gmt":"2022-08-22T10:13:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.getufm.co.ke\/?p=8844"},"modified":"2022-08-22T10:13:34","modified_gmt":"2022-08-22T10:13:34","slug":"raila-karua-at-supreme-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.getufm.co.ke\/?p=8844","title":{"rendered":"Raila, Karua at Supreme Court"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua arrived at the Supreme Court registry in Milimani Monday, where they accompanied their lawyers to deliver physical documents for a petition challenging the victory of President-Elect William Ruto.The two arrived in the company of dozens of Azimio leaders among them Charity Ngilu (former Governor).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Odinga, a veteran opposition leader who ran with the backing of the ruling party, has rejected the outcome of the poll, branding it a \u201ctravesty.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He narrowly lost to Ruto by around 230,000 votes \u2014 less than two percentage points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hundreds of supporters had been camping at the court registry since morning amid tight security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lawyer Dan Maanzo said the petition was filed online Monday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe hard copies will now be brought so that they can be stamped but the online one is already with the court,\u201d he said but declined to provide a copy or reveal the main grounds in the petition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNo I can\u2019t go into those details because the Chief Justice will say I have started to prosecute the case outside court,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyone wishing to file a petition in the Supreme Court against Ruto\u2019s victory has until 2pm Monday which is the deadline for the 7-day window since the declaration of the results by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.getufm.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/karua-milimani-1-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8846\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.getufm.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/karua-milimani-1-980x735.jpeg 980w, https:\/\/www.getufm.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/karua-milimani-1-480x360.jpeg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua arrived at the Supreme Court registry in Milimani Monday, where they accompanied their lawyers to deliver physical documents for a petition challenging the victory of President-Elect William Ruto.The two arrived in the company of dozens of Azimio leaders among them Charity Ngilu (former Governor).
