{"id":9589,"date":"2022-10-28T08:19:15","date_gmt":"2022-10-28T08:19:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.getufm.co.ke\/?p=9589"},"modified":"2022-10-28T08:19:19","modified_gmt":"2022-10-28T08:19:19","slug":"elon-musk-finalises-the-twitter-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.getufm.co.ke\/?p=9589","title":{"rendered":"ELON MUSK FINALISES THE TWITTER DEAL."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The world\u2019s richest man, Elon Musk, has completed his $44bn (\u00a338.1bn) takeover of Twitter, according to US media and an investor in the firm.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A number of top executives, including the boss, Parag Agrawal, have reportedly been fired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It brings to a close a saga that saw Twitter go to court to hold the billionaire to the terms of a takeover deal that he had tried to escape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Musk tweeted that his interest in the firm was not about making money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Twitter has not yet confirmed the takeover, but an early investor in the company told the BBC that the deal had been completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think the court pushed him over the line,\u201d said Ross Gerber, chief executive of Gerber Kawasaki Investments. \u201cQuite frankly, this has sort of been a disaster from the beginning\u2026 Starting off very aggressively courting Twitter in a way that really forced Twitter to the table\u2026 then getting all upset and having a public spat over what to me was pretty well known issues.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company\u2019s chief executive, Mr Agrawal, chief financial officer Ned Segal, and the firm\u2019s top legal and policy executive, Vijaya Gadde, are no longer with the company, according to US media reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Agrawal and Mr Segal were escorted out of Twitter\u2019s San Francisco headquarters after the deal closed, the Reuters news agency reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Twitter co-founder Biz Stone thanked Mr Agrawal, Mr Segal and Ms Gadde for their \u201ccollective contribution\u201d to the business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The social media platform\u2019s shares will be suspended from trading on Friday, according to the New York Stock Exchange\u2019s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Musk said he bought the social media platform to help humanity and he wanted \u201ccivilization to have a common digital town square\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this week Mr Musk tweeted a video of himself walking into Twitter\u2019s headquarters in San Francisco carrying a kitchen sink with the caption: \u201clet that sink in!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also changed his Twitter profile to read \u201cChief Twit\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The world\u2019s richest man, Elon Musk, has completed his $44bn (\u00a338.1bn) takeover of Twitter, according to US media and an investor in the firm.
