2022 poll has attracted an unprecedented number of strong candidates for gubernatorial positions. Machakos county Gubernatorial has attracted Five candidates who seek to succeed governor Alfred Mutua who’s serving his second and final term in the office. Nzioka Whiter resigned from his job as State House Chief of staff to run for the County’s top seat. Johnston Muthama Former Machakos Senator, who’s is also the UDA chair, is also in the race after declining to defending his Senate seat in 2017. Former CAS in the Transport and Infrastructure ministry Wavinya Ndeti, is also eyeing the same seat. Deputy Governor Francis Maliti as also among those vying to succeed his Boss Mutua. Francis believes that his thirty One years in the public service is the silver bullet for the Machakos problems. The Fifth Candidate is Rose Mulwa of the Empowerment and Liberation party.. For The senate seat we have The incumbent Senator Agnes Kavindu of Wiper party, Former County Speaker Bernard Mung’ata of Maendeleo Chap Chap and John Mutua Katuku of People’s Trust party. In the Woman Representative Position, we have, Joyce Kamene of Wiper,Rita Ndunge of Maendeleo Chap Chap, Eunice Mutua of UDA , Victoria Ndunge Mutua of CCU and Selina Mwende Kioko of Federal Party of Kenya.
