Just this morning I received a heartbreaking message from my neighbors wife, that he is no more, he had been missing for a month and we were all trying to figure out where he has been. Four weekends ago the young man in his prime got stressed out by his birth family, he went out on a drinking spree, he hardly drunk at all but often did when he was stressed out, on this particular day he drank too much and for several days he was missing from home, unfortunately his motorbike crushed and he died on the spot, he leaves behind two young boys he loved dearly, a confused wife who has to move from staying at home to being the sole breadwinner . It crushes my heart knowing that ” kiongozi” is no more.

Another friend of mine went out on a hoeing spree after he found out damming details about his wife, they had problems for a while and that one discovery broke him, in that little bit of time, he got some woman pregnant who became the worse nightmare in his life. The worst story however has to do with a close uncle of mine who died in his prime, he died in the 90’s when HIV was viral, on his death bed he told his son this, your mother led me out here, she bled my heart out every day and I slowly turned outside to seek pleasure from the pain, and now I am dying. True to his words, the lady, as we later came to learn was a real Delilah incarnate, the son’s too, with wounds are slowly dying.

Men kill themselves for the same reasons they are trying to run away from, reckless sex, drugs… The end result is death, I would never have imagined using this verse in my life but the good book says in Romans 6, that the wages of sin is death, the soul that does sin eventually dies.

It’s a matter of context, you may not burn in hell as a man who indulges yourself into things that waste you, however, when you do things that destroy your reputation, your networks, things that sabotage your primary support system, things that destroy your health, you will eventually die, the judge may not be the guy up stairs, the judge will be us, your close friends and buddies, your family and your sons, we will look at you and say, you failed in your mission, you destroyed yourself and by extention, those nearest to you.

A son will grow up without a father, so have many others.
Read Romans 6 today, it’s a matter of context, replace God/christ with something else if you have to, but get the message.

Some paths we take, some choices and lifestyles we glorify for whatever reasons we do, leads us to results that cannot be taken back, we try coming back to sobriety but we cannot, we come out unhappier and worse . We watch our pride and identity descend down the grave, inch by inch, feet by feet until we are shells of our former selves.

Don’t die fellas, there’s a lot that needs you.
