Today, The Senate decides on the fate of Governor Kawira Mwangaza. Here is what will happen before the senators make their decision.WEDNESDAY, 8TH NOVEMBER 2023Today, the impeachment hearing will start by tabling of Evidence by Governor Kawira together with witnesses, if any, and cross-examination and re-examination of the evidence.It shall be followed by Questions/Requests for Clarification by the Senators before the Chamber breaks for Lunch.After lunch, the closing Statement on behalf of the County Assembly shall be addressed for a maximum of 60 minutes.In addition, the closing statement shall also be given on behalf of Governor Mwangaza before the Senators make their deliberations.The Senators shall then take part in the voting process to approve/disapprove Kawira Mwangaza’s Impeachment.

Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza on Tuesday November 7 appeared for the second time before the Senate for her Impeachment hearing after she was impeached by the County Assembly.Here are the Impeachment Proceedings followed before the Senate votes on her Impeachment:First, a Pre-Hearing Meeting for the Senators was held in a Closed Session within the Senate Chamber.After the session, the Speaker Recited the Mandate of the Senate, Rules of Procedure, and Hearing Program.The Introduction of Members of the County Assembly of Meru representing the County Assembly, and their Counsel, followed.Governor Kawira alongside her Counsel were also introduced to the Chamber.After the Introduction of the charges, Reading of the Charges took place where Governor Mwangaza was accused of seven charges.The Opening Statement on behalf of the County Assembly, followed by the Opening Statement on behalf of the Governor, took place before the Chamber broke for Lunch.After the break, evidence by the County Assembly and witnesses was tabled, followed by cross-examination and re-examination of the evidence by the Senate.Questions/Requests for Clarification were then tabled by the Senators before Adjournment, marking the end of the first day of the impeachment hearing.
