No Deal for Subsidy yet
There isn’t an agreement in place between the Ministry of Agriculture and the millers to subsidize Unga prizes yet. The two parties are expected to extend talks on subsidizing the price of the commodity from the current standing Ksh.230 for a 2KG packet to the anticipated Ksh.100. From the documents leaked earlier, it was evident that the Ministry of Agriculture was to be supported by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) which would serve to compensate the millers from the fall of the flour.
This subsidy was supposed to run for a duration of One Month that would see wananchi enjoy putting ugali on the table for Ksh.100 for a 2kg packet and Ksh.52 for a kilo of sifted maize flour.
However, it is understood that the prize fall is yet to be exercised due to failure in reaching an agreement on the deal between the millers and the ministry of agriculture. The engagements between the two parties are expected to continue in the coming days this week.
