Usually the top four play the champions league, the winners of the FA go to the Europa league and Carabao cup winners get premier league’s only spot in the conference league hence only six English clubs play in European competitions. However the 2022/23 season has been a wild one with clubs being competitive in some UEFA competitions than others and performances varied in competitions from those the domestic league.
In the upcoming 2023/24 season there will be an additional of two clubs from England making it a total of 8 teams and this is why; because Man U won the Carabao cup and finished the season third in the PL table, a conference league spot was freed up and since Man city won the FA Cup and finished in the top four in EPL standings an extra Europa league spot was left, Both Man u and City will play in the Champions league meaning their spots in the conference league and Europa league will be taken by two other clubs that would have otherwise not played in UEFA European competitions.
This means that Brighton will play in the Europa league, Aston villa will play in the conference league and the eighth team making it to European football will be west ham who beat Fiorentina to win the conference league and got a guaranteed spot in the Europa League this coming season and that’s why and how there will be 8 English teams in European football in the 2023/24 season.
