Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has defended the decision by police to block major roads during the Saba Saba Day protests on Monday, July 7, describing the move as a necessary security measure.
In an official statement, Murkomen commended the security agencies for their proactive approach, particularly in barricading routes leading into the Nairobi Central Business District. He emphasized that the steps taken were aimed at safeguarding lives and protecting property amidst growing unrest.
While acknowledging the inconvenience caused to the public, the CS insisted that the heightened security significantly minimized incidents of violence, looting, and destruction a notable contrast to the more chaotic protests witnessed on June 25.
Murkomen credited the efforts of police officers for the improved situation, saying their contribution was instrumental in maintaining public order.
