Political tensions have heightened in Meru county after Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi took a shot at Meru Governor, Kawira Mwangaza. Speaking in laare town, Igembe north, Mpuru Aburi and some ward representatives heightened their campaign against Ms Mwangaza, following what they term as disrespect as well as arbitrary demotion of senior staff in the county in favour of those who suck up to her. He also accused the governor of misusing county GVT funds through unuseful ways like paying off women to demonstrate and mismanagement of county projects.
Aburi also expressed his disappointment in the governor for sidelining him and other Meru leaders after they had devoted their loyalty and resources in campaigning for her.
It however did not end there as Mpuru went on to make accusatory remarks that are being termed as disrespectful and outright shameful. On Monday, hundreds of women led by the Meru Maendeleo ya Wanawake officials held demonstrations condemning the governor opponent. The angry women marched from Kinoru stadium to Meru town condemning Mr. Aburi.
Speaking during the demonstrations in Meru town, Meru Maendeleo ya Wanawake chairperson Kanana Nteere said Mr Aburi’s remarks that the governor does not respect mens borders on gender-based violence and called for Njuri Ncheke to intervene.
“We are calling on the Njuri Ncheke Council of elders to summon Mr Aburi to explain the unfortunate remarks he made in Laare. We condemn the MP for disrespecting our governor and all women,” Ms Nteere said.
The governor’s husband, Mr Murega Baichu also took to social to raise his concearn as he alleged that the Member of parliament had threatened to use violence against the governor.
Mpuru Aburi had made remarks on the governors marriage to her current husband terming it as immoral and said that she had married a man whose age could be compared to that of his sons and that she was too old to bear children for him. Comments that have not been received soo kindly by the Meru faithful more so the women and the governors supporters.
