The strike enters is second consecutive day as it started on Monday, May 30, and services continue to be paralyzed. The workers camped outside city hall singing with whistles and vuvuzelas, seeking an audience with officials who they say have refused to cooperate. They[The workers] had earlier last week issued the strike notice before proceeding to the action.

The workers under the Kenya County Government Workers Union have cited among others; alleged illegal taxation, a delay by their employer to sign and register the collective bargaining agreement after conclusion of the negotiations and failure by the county government to clear unremitted third party deductions despite court order. Nairobi branch secretary Festus Ngari said that the strike will continue until their grievances are listened to and addressed.

U nion leadership is calling on the county Governor Johnson Sakaja to address their concerns saying that there is a failure to clear unremitted third-party deductions despite a court order, refund illegally deducted Pay As You Earn from constables and firemen/firewomen.

This has paralyzed operations as the workers blocked entrances to the main offices. Meanwhile City Hall officials said they were engaging the striking workers to arrive at a workable agreement.
