The speaker of the county assembly of Tharaka Nithi has announced scrapping off of the positions of Minority leader, whip and their deputies in the house leadership.This is after a resident filed a petition with Kenya Kwanza coalition saying that TSP being a member of the coalition was holding the positions against the law. They were recognised as the minority party in February this year.The assembly has also passed the budget for the year 2023-2024 although some MCAs raised concerns that over half of money allocated to development projects in the budget period ending this month has not been utilised, wondering what will happen to the projects which were budgeted for at the demand of the county residents.They have also joined other county assemblies in adjourning their sittings until:– their salaries are returned to where they were in the last term(140,000 she)- County assemblies be given autonomy; get funds direct from treasury instead of depending on the executive.- Have ward development fund be enshrined in the constitution.
