Residents of Kamanyaki in the Tharaka South sub-county are opposing the government’s intentions to build the proposed Kibuuka Grand Falls Dam. The locals are concerned about potential land loss, lack of clarity regarding compensation, and the possibility of being displaced. Aron Kinampiu, a local resident, emphasized their uncertainty, saying, “We just want to know where we will go; please, there seems to be no possibility, and we have respected leaders, including an MCA and a governor.”During a public meeting, residents also raised concerns about the lack of communication regarding the project and the failure of local leaders to involve them in the dam’s construction plans. They have requested comprehensive project information from their leaders. Dr. Kijogi Kabisani, another resident, added, “We want to know how many people, and we ask our elected political leaders to represent us effectively.”
