President William Ruto is leading an urgent meeting at State House, Nairobi, to address the El Nino-related crisis. The meeting follows widespread floods that have resulted in casualties, forced families from their homes, and caused extensive property damage. The toll includes more than 70 lives lost and over 80,000 households displaced in 33 affected count

Emergency response teams, including the Red Cross, caution that the figures are poised to rise, and the rivers may further swell with persistent heavy rainfall. Evacuation initiatives in flood-prone regions are underway, with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua stating that the national government is mobilizing helicopters for rescues and coordinating assistance for those stranded and requiring humanitarian aid.
