Former Kenyan international Jesse Jackson Were has made a sensational return to Zambian side Zesco United, two years after he left for rivals Kansanshi Dynamos.The club announced that Were, who scored 100 goals for the nine-time Zambian champions, was signing a one-year contract with them.Were left for Kansanshi at the start of the 2022 season where he was the club’s top scorer with eight goals and six assists, helping them to finish the season at seventh spot.The forward said he was excited to return to Zesco and hopes to achieve more success. “I am delighted to come back to Zesco. This is a place I call home and I am looking forward to more success here. It will definitely not be the same but I am ready to fight for a starting role and prove my worth,” Were told the club’s media after his unveiling in Ndola.The striker joined Zesco for his first stint in 2016 from Tusker FC and went on to win four league titles, two ABSA CUP Championships and two Charity Shield honoursin five years at the club.He was also part of the team that reached the Champions League semi-finals in his debut season, alongside fellow Kenyans Teddy Akumu and David Owino.He left in January 2022 as the club’s all-time record scorer, and the first player to net 100 goals for the club. He now re-unites with fellow Kenyan, goalkeeper Ian Otieno, who has been with the club since 2020.
