Prof Kithure Kindiki, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Administration of National Government, has unveiled a comprehensive strategy to proactively handle potential threats to peace and tackle the underlying causes of violent conflicts in the nation. Speaking at his office on Wednesday, Prof Kindiki emphasized the government’s ongoing evaluation of existing normative and institutional arrangements for peacebuilding. The aim is to incorporate early warning mechanisms and establish a cohesive peace-building infrastructure at both national and sub-national levels.Aligning with the Kenya Kwanza’s Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and the subsidiarity principle, the peacebuilding approach will be organized to operate and decide matters at the grassroots, specifically at the village and ward levels, before progressing to the national level. The Cabinet Secretary made these remarks following the presentation of The Review of Kenya’s Peace Building Architecture by The Panel of Independent Experts appointed by the Interior Ministry, with General (Rtd) Daniel Opande serving as their Chairman.
