On Monday, two suspects, Vincent Muriithi Kirimi (alias Supuu) and Kenneth Murangiri Guantai (alias Tali), pleaded not guilty to the murder charges of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani Benard, also known as ‘Sniper’. The charges allege that, between December 2nd and December 16th, 2023, at River Mutonga in Chiakariga Sub County, Tharaka-Nthi County, they, along with others, murdered the deceased. Despite the state prosecution objecting to bail, the defense argued that the accused have the right to be bailed without compelling reasons under Article 49 of the Constitution. Lady Justice Dorah Chepkwony directed the defense to file submissions within seven days and ordered medical attention for the first accused, setting the next court appearance for February 29th. Last week, detectives released four suspects after finding them innocent in their investigation
