Several people are feared dead following a grisly accident that occurred on Monday, February 12, at Syokimau along the Nairobi -Mombasa Highway.
Police reports indicated that the accident, involving an Embassava bus and a tipper truck, culminated in the two vehicles being severely damaged as a result of the collision and the bus veering off the road before landing inside a ditch.
The reports also indicated that two people died on the spot while those injured were rushed to nearby health facilities. Immediately after the accident, eyewitnesses rushed to the scene, which was followed by the arrival of first responders, disrupting traffic on the busy road.
According to eyewitnesses, the lorry rammed into the bus from behind leading to the accident.
Another accident was also reported on Sunday. The accident which occurred along the Machakos-Kitui Road involved a van transporting the Yatta Academia Band.
12 people sustained injuries from the accident. However, no fatalities were reported.
Data shared by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) released in January revealed that as of January 7, there were a total of 508 road accident victims. The statistics showed the total fatalities were 84, with the number of seriously injured persons being 234. Meanwhile, the number of slightly injured people was 190.
