Police officer arrested for selling and distributing liquor in Kirinyaga despite closure order from the county govenor Anne Waiguruofficer has been arrested in Kirinyaga County for violating Governor Anne Waiguru’s order to close all alcohol-selling establishments.
Stanley Ithiru, a corporal at Gilgil Police Station, was detained at the Ithare Trading Centre in Kirinyaga East Sub-County, where he runs a pub and guest house.
He is currently being held at the Kianyaga Police Station.
County Commissioner Hussein Allasow stated that the officer’s arrest followed public reports of the bar’s continued operation and distribution of local brews despite the County Government’s closure order dated February 19, 2024.
The officer’s arrest is part of a larger crackdown, with four other police officers detained in Ngurubani, Mwea East, for consuming alcohol at Mutitu Andei Bar.
Dennis Muciimi, County Executive Committee Member for Sports, Culture, and Social Services, stated that the vetting process for bars, which is now in its second day, is proceeding smoothly.
