In a move expected to disrupt healthcare services, doctors belonging to the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) have announced a seven-day strike beginning next Monday.

On Monday, members of the KMPDU staged a peaceful demonstration in Nairobi, denouncing the recent shooting of their Secretary General, Davji Atellah, by police during a previous protest in the capital.

The demonstration, which aimed to highlight various grievances within the medical community, notably focused on the government’s delay in assigning medical interns. Tragically, during Thursday’s protest, Atellah was injured by a teargas canister, intensifying tensions between the union and law enforcement authorities.
