Convicted individual Joseph Irungu, also known as Jowie Irungu, has made a heartfelt plea to the family of the late businesswoman Monica Kimani, who tragically lost her life in September 2018. Speaking during proceedings at the Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday, March 13, Justice Grace Nzioka read out an application submitted by Jowie, wherein he appealed to Kimani’s family to find solace amidst the trying circumstances.
In his statement, as conveyed by Justice Grace Nzioka, Jowie expressed profound sorrow over the tragic loss of Kimani, acknowledging the immense pain and anguish endured by her family over the past five years. He acknowledged the inexplicable nature of the crime and the extreme circumstances surrounding it, admitting that even he, as a convicted individual, struggles to comprehend the magnitude of the act.
Jowie conveyed his sincere prayers for the deceased’s family to find peace and for Kimani’s soul to rest in eternal peace. He empathized with the fear and pain Kimani must have experienced at the hands of the perpetrator, acknowledging that no amount of monetary compensation could alleviate the anguish of losing a loved one. He expressed his hope for a custodial sentence from the court, acknowledging the victim’s family’s call for a death sentence but also highlighting the father’s stance against vengeance.
During her ruling, Justice Nzioka took into consideration the presentence report filed by the probation department. She noted that Jowie, 33 years old, hails from a family with living parents and three siblings. The report outlined Jowie’s background, indicating that he had pursued studies in food production and received training in tactical military operations at the Dubai Police Academy. At the time of his arrest, he was engaged in providing security services, particularly to individuals in the political sector, and was in the process of establishing his own security firm.
