In a sobering turn of events, a bus transporting the Thagichu subcounty team, comprised of students from various schools participating in the Kitui County Games, met with an accident on its journey back home. According to Mr. Kaula, the principal of Gankanga Secondary School, who provided details of the incident, the mishap occurred near Nguutani in Mwingi West while the team was en route to Thagichu.

The bus, ferrying students from Gatama Secondary, Pracious Blood, Gankanga Secondary, Tharaka Girls, and Kamayagi Secondary respectively, had already dropped off some students at Nthangani and Gatama. As it proceeded to drop off more students at Gankanga, Ciampiu, and later Kamayagi along the route from Katama, the driver encountered a critical situation.

According to reports, the bus lost its brakes while navigating a steep section of the road. Faced with this perilous situation, the driver attempted to negotiate the bus but unfortunately, it veered off the road and plunged into a nearby stream.

Despite the harrowing nature of the accident, Mr. Kaula has provided a glimmer of relief, stating that approximately seven students sustained minor injuries and are currently in stable condition. Additionally, he mentioned that one teacher sustained slightly more serious injuries but is reported to be resilient and recuperating well.

Expressing gratitude for the relatively minor nature of the injuries, Mr. Kaula extended his appreciation to the providence that ensured no severe harm befell the students and staff onboard. He further urged parents and residents of Thagichu to remain calm and composed during this time of uncertainty.

As investigations into the cause of the accident commence, the paramount concern remains the swift recovery and well-being of all those affected. The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of safety measures and vigilance, particularly during journeys involving young students.
