Embakasi East’s Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, has announced the establishment of a new coalition aimed at tackling pressing citizen concerns. In a press briefing held on Tuesday, March 26th, Babu Owino expressed his dissatisfaction with the current opposition team in Kenya, prompting him to initiate this fresh endeavor.
Addressing journalists, Owino highlighted deficiencies within the existing opposition structure as his motivation for forming the new coalition. Joining him in this initiative are prominent figures such as Gathoni wa Muchomba, the MP for Githunguri Constituency, Caleb Amisi of Saboti Constituency, Charles Nguna, Amos Mwago representing Starehe constituency, Catherine Omanyo, the Busia Women representative, and Mark Mwenje, the MP for Embakasi West.
Owino pledged full support towards resolving the ongoing nationwide doctors’ strike and called upon the media to collaborate closely with their communication efforts. The coalition of six legislators issued a stern warning to Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha and Agriculture counterpart Mithika Linturi, accusing them of dereliction of duty.
With a seven-day ultimatum, the MPs threatened to initiate impeachment proceedings against CS Nakhumicha should she fail to address the prolonged doctors’ strike that continues to disrupt healthcare services nationwide. Additionally, they condemned Agriculture CS Linturi for his alleged inability to combat the proliferation of counterfeit fertilizers in the market and the delayed distribution of subsidized fertilizers.
Despite warnings from Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja, who urged them to reconsider their stance, the doctors remain resolute in their strike as it enters its third week.
