Other notable airports mentioned in the rankings include Mohammed V International Airport and Anfa Airport in Casablanca, Mauritius’ Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, Gaetan Duval Airport, and Marrakech Menara Airport.

Addis Ababa’s Bole Airport, Kigali International Airport, and Cairo International Airport were also recognized in the rankings.

Among the South African cities, Cape Town, Durban, and Johannesburg made it to the top 100 list worldwide, ranking at 54, 72, and 83 respectively.

JKIA, as East Africa’s busiest airport, hosts over forty passenger airlines and 25 cargo airlines. In the Financial Year 2022/2023, the airport recorded 98,975 aircraft movements and served approximately 7,323,373 passengers.

The Kenyan government, as outlined in President William Ruto’s Medium Term Plan launched on March 22, aimed to construct a new terminal at JKIA, expected to be completed before the end of the 2025/2026 financial year. This new terminal would have a capacity to handle 20 million passengers annually and was envisioned to contribute to increased traffic and improved passenger experience at the airport. Additionally, renovations of Terminal 1E were included in this development plan.
