The family of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Francis Ogolla has confirmed that burial arrangements are progressing in accordance with his expressed wishes. Speaking to the media on Friday, April 19, Ogolla’s father, Joel Oketch, revealed that his son had stipulated his desire for a prompt burial within 72 hours in the event of his untimely passing.
The burial is scheduled to take place on April 21, 2024, at Ogolla’s residence in Ng’iya, Alego Usonga, Siaya County. Ogolla, who had constructed a home situated two kilometers from the family’s residence in Siaya, had made his preferences known.
Additionally, the family disclosed that Ogolla had intended to commemorate his father’s upcoming 100th birthday on Saturday in Siaya, with plans including attending a church service and hosting a gathering at home.
Ogolla’s sister, Peris Oketch, informed the press that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in Nairobi were coordinating burial arrangements in adherence to military protocols. Ogolla’s wife and close relatives are actively involved in the preparations.
Describing Ogolla as a diligent and respected individual among his peers, his family reflected on his hard work and generous nature.
Concerns regarding the circumstances of Ogolla’s passing have left his father with unanswered questions.
The forthcoming burial is expected to be attended by President William Ruto, the Acting Chief of Defence Forces, their deputy, Cabinet Secretaries for Interior and Defence, the Attorney General, and other high-ranking government officials. Despite established protocols for military and servicemen’s burials, the president retains the discretion to determine the handling of this funeral, given that Ogolla is the first Chief of Defence Forces to pass away while in office.
