On Wednesday, the Kenya Meteorological Department issued a warning about significant rainfall expected for the remainder of the week. The advisory highlighted that heavy rains would intensify from Thursday until Friday. Specifically, the Highlands East/West of Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, with other regions such as the Rift Valley, South-eastern lowlands, Coast, North-western, and North-eastern Kenya also expected to be affected.
Additionally, Coastal residents were cautioned to prepare for heavy downpours leading to potential flooding starting from May. Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rainfall is anticipated in various areas within the Nairobi Metropolis, as per the forecast dated April 24.
This update comes amidst the ongoing rainfall across the country, causing disruptions in services, particularly in Nairobi. As of April 24, numerous roads in the Nairobi region were submerged in floodwaters, displacing hundreds of people. The Kenya Red Cross Society promptly intervened, rescuing stranded residents, including 18 individuals (11 adults and 7 children) rescued from the flooded Mradi area of Mathare.
