Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire has issued an immediate prohibition on all scrap metal operations within the county.

During a press briefing at her office on Tuesday, the governor cited a significant increase in incidents of government and private property vandalism as the reason behind the ban. In response, she has mandated a thorough reevaluation of all scrap dealers to eliminate dishonest enterprises involved in these acts of vandalism.

“Effective immediately, all scrap metal activities are suspended. We are initiating a comprehensive reevaluation of the scrap metal industry in Embu County,” declared the governor.

Mbarire asserted that numerous county assets had fallen victim to individuals she identified as scrap metal dealers. She highlighted the theft of metallic waste bins across various locations in the county as a compelling factor prompting her directive.

“Recently, there were apprehensions of individuals attempting to vandalize a stadium constructed with substantial funds. They are well aware of their actions,” claimed the governor.

“Even governmental enclosures and school perimeters constructed with metal components have been pilfered overnight and traded off,” she further lamented.

Mbarire emphasized that only scrap metal dealers who successfully undergo the reevaluation process will be eligible for new licenses. This reevaluation will be conducted by a collaborative team comprising security personnel and county officials.
