President William Ruto has named General Charles Muriu Kahariri as the newly appointed Chief of Defence Forces (CDF). Before his promotion to General, Kahariri held the rank of Lieutenant General. He also served as the Vice Chief of Defence Forces before assuming his current position. Notably, Kahariri temporarily acted as CDF following the passing of General Francis Ogolla.

In accordance with section 9 (2) (a) of the Kenya Defence Forces Act, His Excellency Hon Dr William Samoei Ruto, C.G.H, President of the Republic of Kenya, and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, has elevated Lieutenant General Charles Muriu Kahariri to the rank of General and designated him as the Chief of the Defence Forces,” as stated in the announcement.

Moreover, Major General John Mugaravai Omenda has been appointed as the Vice Chief of Defence Forces. Previously serving as the Kenya Air Force Commander, Lieutenant General John Mugaravai Omenda assumes this new role.

Additionally, Major General Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed has been assigned to the Kenya Air Force as its Commander. Other appointments include Major General Thomas Njoroge Ng’ang’a, who has been assigned to the National Defence University as the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance, and Brigadier Peter Nyamu Githinji, who has been promoted to Major General and appointed as Senior Directing Staff, Air at National Defence College.
